The Open Journal is a news and lifestyle publication that champions authentic storytelling about issues affecting the student population in South Africa and the youth in general.
It shines the spotlight on stories that are often overlooked and under-documented. This is done by telling them in a truthful and creativity manner.
The site was founded by the University of Johannesburg’s (UJ’s) journalism students during the institution’s 2016 International Festival.
They gained their first newsroom experience when covering the Festival. An outcome that has made training and skills development to be at the heart of the organisation.
Since then, a number of people have formed part of its editorial team and the ship is still being steered. Any one is invited to contribute to the content bank that The Open Journal team has been investing in.
Email us your queries and suggestions. We believe that everyone has a story to tell. If you have content (articles, image, video, etc.) to share, story idea(s) you want to work on or for us to follow up, you are welcome to email our editor. TOJ
