The uprisings of 1976 and the Fees Must Fall protests of 2015, almost 40 years later, were important turns in the continuing fight for the true emancipation of a majority of South Africans.

The institution viewed Goba’s actions as being opportunistic.
“At the centre of the battle for power lies a deeper idea: the idea of entitlement and monopoly over the space,” according to a student leader.
The gospel by the state that young people must be entrepreneurs is not a solution; it is an empty rhetoric. It is no longer fashionable to say go study, becoming an entrepreneur is an in thing.
“Please lay complaints and send any evidence, including video clips to the Head of Campus Protection Services so that it can be processed,” states the University’s Senior Executive Team in an email to students.
